Night Nanny or Newborn Care Specialist? The Difference Explained
The terms are often used interchangeably — incorrectly. A night nanny covers nights so parents sleep; a newborn care specialist (NCS) additionally builds feeding and sleep foundations in the first twelve weeks. The distinction matters for both expectations and budget.
Night nanny
- Overnight feeds, changing, settling — you sleep, they work
- Typically $40–$65 per hour for 8–10 hour nights
- Bookable from the first weeks, often 3–5 nights per week
Newborn care specialist
- Everything above plus: structured sleep conditioning and feeding plans
- Certified training and documented newborn experience
- $50–$75 per hour, usually booked for the first 8–16 weeks
